At both my children’s schools there are several viruses (and one a dreaded stomach bug) making the rounds. UGH. Viruses are a part of life, especially with kids. But with Halloween coming up this weekend and a road trip to San Francisco for the Kula Mama family, I want to give my kids the best shot at avoiding this round of school illnesses. So this week I’ve gone into immune boosting TURBO mode, focusing on:
Daily intake of immune boosters
This immune protocol requires a certain level of mindfulness on my part, but so far (knock on wood) my kids have stayed healthy this week (and this fall for that matter—very different than last year!) In addition to remembering to give them their immune boosting supplements like vitamin c and elderberry syrup, I am also trying to sneak natural immune boosters into their smoothies and soups.
I’ve made this Orange Creamsicle Smoothie a few times the past two weeks and both kids LOVED it. It’s packed with natural vitamin C, omega 3 fatty acids, protein, and immune-boosting ingredients like ginger and raw honey. Not to mention it tastes great. Kid-friendly AND virus-fighting—a WIN!
Enjoy!
- 2 oranges juiced
- 1 small frozen banana
- 2 tablespoons collagen hydrolysate
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon raw manuka or buckwheat honey
- 1/2-inch piece fresh ginger
- 1 orange zested. I use a microplane for this
- 2 dashes cinnamon
- 1 cup ice
-
Place all ingredients into a high powered blender and blend until combined. Serve immediately.
Wow, just looking at the ingredient list I’m sure this tastes gorgeous.
